Investing for a Better, Greener Future 🌱

As the eyes of the world prepare to focus on the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), it is clear that the climate crisis is now one of the most pressing challenges facing the global community; the UK government and our industry must play our part and take radical steps to protect the future of our planet.

Why it matters

Road transport accounts for 10% of global emissions, and its emissions are rising faster than those of any other sector.

What we are doing

We have increased our investment in driver training and performance analysis to help us monitor perimeters such as MPG and Fuel Consumption. We are committed to doing all we can to make a difference and will always be open minded to new ways to become greener.

Adjusting our driver behaviour and promoting awareness of how to properly operate and maintain vehicles for efficient running has made an immediate impact on our fleet’s carbon footprint through reduced fuel usage and idling time.

Paul Whelan, Depot Manager at Trucklink EU, said:

"As an Environmentally conscious operator of a fleet of LGV’s we recognise that we will have an impact on the environment. As a business we take our place in both the local community and the wider community seriously. We operate a ‘Best policy practice’ to ensure we are continually monitoring, training, and improving both our drivers and our operation.

Through targeted driver training we are pleased to see that over the last few months our fuel usage has been reduced per miles travelled by minimising harsh braking, reduction in idling, correct operation of cruise control/exhaust braking and by educating drivers in the importance of forward planning."

Working together to deliver change

Each of us has a part to play. That’s why, in the run up to the summit, we have been working closely with our partners as part of our commitment to doing all we can to lower our carbon footprint.

By working together, we can make a real difference and bring about monuments change. With thanks to our long-term partner, Verilocation, and their market leading driver performance and behaviour monitoring solution, we identified where improvements needed to be made in both driving efficiency and safety, with this information, we are able to give tailored driver behaviour training for a safer and more efficient fleet of drivers.

Our in-house driver training consultant, Steve, has recently worked alongside our drivers with one-to-one driver retraining and target-driven improvement strategies and has helped:

- Achieve an increase of 7.78% in our MPG since February

- More drivers receive their behaviour performance bonus.

- Run a more economically friendly fleet

- Improve ROI and lessen the wear & tear on the fleet

- Increase the skillset of our drivers
