Teaming up with Welcomm to support LOROS Hospice

LOROS Hospice is an important charity to Trucklink for many reasons. Having had first hand experience in the care LOROS provide, Trucklink were proud to announce their commitment to support LOROS throughout 2021 by becoming the official logistics partner of the Rocket Round Leicester event; the biggest art trail Leicester has ever seen! landing in Leicester City Centre in summer 2021.

Whilst on a video call with LOROS and other business sponsors/partners, it was Nigel Todd, Managing Director at Trucklink EU that spotted a familiar face in longstanding Trucklink partner: Rachel Williamson, Operations Director at Welcomm.

Once both businesses learned about their shared connection with LOROS Hospice, the idea to work together was an easy decision for both Leicestershire based companies. To learn more about this supportive partnership, we got Nigel and Rachel together to discuss why they choose to support LOROS Hospice.

A Local Collaboration

Both based in Leicestershire, Trucklink EU’s and Welcomm Communications strong relationship has developed over many years of working together, as Welcomm supplies mobile and telephony services to Trucklink EU and the wider HAE Group.

Big believers in supporting local, both businesses share many values including prioritising customers, maintaining strong supplier relationships, and making a difference in their local communities.

Why we chose to support LOROS

Nigel Todd, Managing Director at Trucklink EU said:

“My connection with LOROS goes back quite a few years – I remember calling into LOROS for the first time. A dear friend of ours was suffering from cancer, and so we went in to see Steve.

I don’t like going into hospitals, but LOROS was completely different – as welcoming as a hotel.

And then my mother passed in March 2019, as she suffered with a lung disease for seven years. As my mum’s health worsened, she became involved with LOROS. LOROS provided some respite for my mum – she enjoyed the entertainment they put on for visitors, and as she was there over Christmas, we had a family party that helped us spend precious time together.

We choose to support LOROS because their care is so, so important. I can’t put into words how much their work matters. There is no fear, only care. They make cups of tea, any time of the day and my mum gained such an association with the nurses; for which I am eternally grateful.”

Rachel Williamson, Operations Director at Welcomm said:

“I grew up with a lady called Sarah, who sadly passed away in 2018 from cancer. She was only in her early 50’s and had a big impact on my life.

Sarah visited LOROS because she needed some quick respite care as her health worsened, and the people there were able to get her back on her feet so to speak, to give her a little extra time. Sarah used this time to organise her own funeral, and it ended up being the most beautiful celebration of her life! They gave her that time at home to prepare everything and know that she was leaving us all in a good place. What they did for her was absolutely outstanding.

As a result of Sarah’s passing, her cousin and I cycled from London to Paris all in support of LOROS – an amazing experience that raised over £5000 for the charity. We choose to support LOROS as a thank you for looking after all of the mums, dads, friends and family that need support at the hardest time.”
